Year 4’s Egyptian Day – 26th May 2022
Our Egyptian Day was incredible, the children looked great and were full of enthusiasm. The activities enabled them to put prior learning into practise.
First, the children made papyrus paper. Once it was dry, they wrote their name in a cartouche using hieroglyphics. After this, the children instructed me through the process of mummification, to mummify Arther (the class skeleton). Following this, they went on to mummify dolls in groups which consisted of removing clay organs from jelly, drawing amulets to include during the wrapping process. The children took responsibility for their own photos, during this activity, to illustrate their instructions.
The children were super during the food tasting. They had a variety of food to try, which was traditionally eaten during the time. They all had a go at trying the food, even though some were not too sure if they would like the item of food. We had some unusual combinations with the flatbread, which the Ancient Egyptians would have also tried, to flavour the bread and try something new.
